SafBaby grew out of the passion and determination of two moms who were frustrated by how difficult it was to find safe, non-toxic alternatives for their babies and growing children. They knew from their own research and experience that access to this information made an incredible difference in their lives. They were determined to find a way for other parents to benefit from all they had discovered on their own.
In 2007, Sandra Blum and Samantha Fox Olson founded Safbaby.com, a mommy blog with a big mission: to find and share the safest alternatives available, all backed by research and facts. Soon after, they created the MACT Awards (Mom Approved, Child Tested) to recognize products that met their highest safety and non-toxic standards.
In requesting manufacturers to provide detailed information to them about what was in their products, SafBaby fully disclosed how companies replied…or didn’t. In 2010, SafBaby was the first blog in the United States to report the recall and subsequent ban in France and Belgium of EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) foam puzzle mats. As some countries were pulling the mats off the shelves and others were saying they were safe, SafBaby revealed the lab results showing that all of them had varying amounts of formamide, an odorless, cancer-causing chemical that is easily absorbed by breathing or skin or mouth contact. Thousands of readers responded by passing on the information through social media and soon SafBaby became one of the most trusted and visited eco-conscious parenting blogs in the U.S.—ranked in the top five out of thousands.
After seven years of steadfast dedication, Sandra and Samantha have now entrusted their mission to Dr. Murray Clarke ND., D.Hom., L.Ac, who has served as SafBaby’s Health Expert Advisor since 2011. Dr. Clarke is a pioneer in the field of holistic pediatrics and the author of “Natural Baby – Healthy Child.” He’s widely regarded as the leading homeopathic pediatrician in Los Angeles and is the founder of ChildLife Essentials®, the first complete line of nutritional supplements for infants and children.
With a strong foundation in place, Dr. Clarke is looking forward to more parents and parents-to-be becoming aware of how to help their children thrive.
