A Conscious Guide To Childhood Vaccinations

By |February 18, 2010 |

This is a must read book for all parents who desire to make an educated choice about how to (or not to) vaccinate their child.  A Parents’ Conscious Guide To Childhood Vaccinations is wonderfully written by Lauren Feder, M.D., a nationally recognized physician who specializes in holistic health and is board certified in homeopathic medicine.  This is an easy-to-read book that offers practical medical AND natural ways to protect your child.

Dr. Feder says it best when she wrote, “Whatever your decision regarding vaccinations, the goal is always the same:  to raise happy and healthy children who are able to blossom and reach their potential in life.”  That is the truth!  And, now thanks to this book, parents have a tool to help them look at their child as an individual, not a number.  The information in this book eases the confusion and frustration as to how to wisely choose a safe approach in vaccinating or not.  The “pro-informed-choice” is the best choice when it comes to all of the parenting choices we make, Childhood Vaccinations educates parents on the topic of vaccinations with wisdom and expertise.

If your wondering, “What’s right for my child?” this book is for you! […]

Off to a Great Start with Bummis Organic Cloth Diaper Kit

By |January 28, 2010 |

Bummis Organic Cloth Diaper Kit offers a parent everything you need to get started diapering their baby in a more eco-friendly way!   This kit is supreme, stupendous, ingenious and darn right put together with the finest of materials and durability.  The kits come in 2 sizes and includes prefold inserts, 2 different types of diaper covers, flushable diaper liners, fleece liners to wick away moisture, a wet bag for storage of dirty diapers and a user guide!

I personally chose cloth diapers for my baby girl when she was one, and I am so happy I did.  I didn’t do it when she was an infant because I failed miserably my first few attempts and didn’t think I could handle.  The real problem was that I just needed to know a few BASIC things to make diapering in this invaluable way successful.  If I would have had this Bummis Kit, I would have had all the tools I needed. My Favorite Safe and Natural Teething Toy

By |January 14, 2010 |

My son is little over 4 months old and he’s sucking and chewing anything he can get his hands on. I bought him a bunch of wooden rings, cloth toys and safe plastic teethers, but all he wants is his Sophie the Giraffe.

He usually drops toys a few seconds after he chews on them but not Sophie, it is the only toy that stays in his hands for more than 5 minutes!

Mommy also appreciates Sophie’s help to keep  little guy happy in the car, crib and even in the bath tub!

Below are my top 10 reason, why Sophie the Giraffe is so fabulous and simply irresistible! […]

A Rich Organic Baby Lotion That The Average Income Can Afford!

By |December 29, 2009 |

It is insanely mind boggling how many dangerous toxins readily make up many of the mainstream skin care products targeted for our children.  Seriously, if the mass public knew the dangers of rubbing these neuro-toxins and hormone disruptors into the bodies of those we love and cherish the most, major companies would be going out of business fast.  Using a non-toxic moisturizer on our children is incredibly important.  Unfortunately not always affordable.  Not anymore!

Many children these days also suffer from serious skin conditions such as eczema.  So it is so wonderful to find skin care that is safe for the whole family, organic, hydrating, and INCREDIBLY AFFORDABLE!

Not only that, but Fresh Organics uses such amazing green practices in their manufacturing process that we are truly blown away!  We love this product, their Velvety Soft Babee Lotion!

When our skin feels healthy, we feel healthy!  Dry winter air can cause the moisture in the top layer of your skin to evaporate quickly.  Hence, this may be a time you are beginning to look for a rich, organic lotion for you AND your baby.

Inspired To Be The Creative Family

By |December 13, 2009 |

Is holiday crafting making your home feel a little more creative and festive right about now?  It is in our home.  One of my favorite crafts that me and my 3 year old daughter are working on is a JOY JAR.  A very special and heart felt gift idea that we were inspired to create from Amanda Blake Soule’s AMAZING book, The Creative Family.

The Creative Family has 100% encouraged heightened imagination and craftier bonding time between me and my little darling.  This book is so amazing that you will NOT be able to put it down once you have opened it.  Not only are there sweet, simple projects and activities for you and your children (of all ages), but Amanda’s gift of being an inspirationally creative earth mama literally jumps off of the pages.  I have read the book twice, and I am just as inspired the second time around to have more fun with fewer toys and look at life with my young girl with new eyes. The Media Doesn’t Want You To See This!

By |November 23, 2009 |

Consuming Kids is an hour message that is incredibly eye-opening and positively influential!  This documentary helps us recognize who we are permitting to teach our children about values, where happiness comes from, and on what truly makes them important and worthy individuals.  I use to think that since my child didn’t watch cable television, she was safe from media influence.   Boy were my eyes opened.  Consuming Kids is a MUST see for ALL parents!

Who is telling you what is appropriate for your children to watch, to consume, and how to behave?  Who is telling your kids what holds value?  The truth of the matter is that our children become targets to the multi-billion dollar marketing machine trying to sell them things, and instill in their minds what is “cool”,  in the very first year of their lives.  Our children deserve consideration and respect as miraculous beings.  They DON’T deserve to be convinced at a very early age that life is about getting/buying things.  They don’t deserve to be a target as a life long consumer!

Consuming Kids took me, and will take you, on a journey into the selfish intentions and huge  impact that advertising has on our kids. […]

Keep Cell Phones Away From Your Children

By |October 4, 2009 |

The concerns regarding cell phone usage in relation to brain tumors/cancers is an on-going controversy.  But when it comes to cell phone health risks for our children, SAFbaby is leaning on the side of extreme caution for many scientific reasons that we will begin talking about here.

If you google “Cell Phone Health Risks in Children” you get 40,800,000 results.  We are obviously not the only ones concerned that frequent cell phone exposure can lead to severe health effects. So we are happy today to bring you tips on how to greatly reduce your child’s exposure to cell phone radiation.

More and more studies show cell phone use can increase the risk for brain and mouth tumors.   But, because there are not enough studies done on its long term effects (10+ years) nothing is being done by the U.S. government to protect consumers, especially children.

In 1950 a controversial U.S. study came out claiming cigarette smoking could cause lung cancer. Nobody took it seriously for many years to come and the government did nothing because it did not believe smoking cigarettes was the cause.

It makes me wonder if cell phones one day will be responsible for more cancer than cigarettes. Today, 4 billion people worldwide own a cell phone! An astonishing number when just 10 years ago it was rare to see a cell phone. […]

Natural Skin Care For Kids With Eczema Or Other Skin Sensitivities

By |August 13, 2009 |

This new line of skin care from Skin Free® is fabulous!  As soon as I put it on my skin I loved it.  Nothing fancy, no long list of ingredients (just a handful on really natural ingredients at most), and zero fragrance.  This combo helps to make this a perfect line of skin care for babies, children, pregnant mamas, or anyone with sensitive skin or skin irritations.

Scoring a ZERO on Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep site is tested information stating that a skin care product, or in this case LINE of products, are non-toxic, chemical free, safe and natural.  Skin Free® scores a ZERO!  Completely non-toxic skin care, great for all people, even infants, with skin conditions or sensitive skin.

I knew I was sold after using these products personally, my skin felt hydrated and nourished.  It felt as though my skin drank this stuff up!   But, how would it do for a family with skin conditions such as eczema?

A Safe and Effective DEET-Free Bug Spray for Babies and Kids

By |July 8, 2009 |

Deet, especially for our babies and children, is highly toxic.  So, being a nature loving family, we wish to use a safer alternative.
The great outdoors is a place where our young one’s mind can expand with the vastness of nature. Breathing in fresh air and experiencing the delightful array of unlimited possibilities that stretch from the grass on the earth, to the expansive vault of the sky is a gift we can give our children daily.
Don’t let those pesty mosquitoes hold you back from getting into the forest/jungle, enjoying colorful sunsets, or even picnicking in your very own backyard this summer.  OUR BABIES THRIVE FROM THE NURTURE OF NATURE.  Find a DEET-free bug spray, and get out in nature and enjoy!
What you need to know about deet, especially if you are a parent is this….

Stainless Steel Ice Cube Trays Makes Safe Frozen Baby Food: A Safe Alternative To Plastic

By |June 25, 2009 |

Making baby food for your baby is a wonderful gift.  For a baby to receive the nourishment of whole foods, cooked from your garden or local farmer’s market to the table is the best!

But sometimes it really is a little too time consuming to make each meal fresh.  Freezing your own cooked baby food is the next best thing to a freshly cooked home-cookin’ meal.

And since SAFbaby loves to stray from the norm of plastic everythings, we were really excited to hear about these stainless steel ice cube trays from the Tickle Trunk!  Not only can you make ice cubes from plastic free trays, but what an invention for safely freezing your own homemade baby food and food purees!

This SPF Sun Hat for Kids and Adults Tops The Rest!

By |June 15, 2009 |

This Play Hat from Sunday Afternoons is just about the coolest invention in an SPF hat for children that we’ve seen!

When it comes to sun protection clothing, it is nice to know what to look for.  This Sun Hat carries a 50+ UPF!  If a garment has a UPF factor (Ultra Violet Protection Factor) of 50 attached to it, this means that just 1/50th of the sun’s radiation will reach the skin.

Our children have such delicate skin.  My daughter’s skin is especially sensitive on her scalp, face and around her eyes.  So keeping her head covered while she is playing in the great outdoors is smart and safe.

There are many reasons why this hat is topping the rest…..

PVC-Free Wet/Dry Bags: Great for Cloth Diapers, Swim Wear and More

By |June 2, 2009 |

Oh the uses a mommy will find for these PVC-free and lead-free wet and wet/dry bags by Planet Wise. Not only are they completely waterproof, even at the seams, but they are wonderfully crafted in the USA!

PVC or vinyl often lines bags that are meant to be waterproof (such as diaper bags.) But, not only is PVC incredibly toxic, it also can NOT be recycled, making it an environmental toxin too. Not cool.

Thanks goodness these stylish wet bags from Planet Wise are totally cool, economical, and made by a eco-conscious husband and wife team in the USA.

Also, did you know that many zippers have been pained using paint that contains lead? Yikes! Well, not here. All zippers in Planet Wise’s eco-line of bags are lead free too!
