A Simple Baby Wrap With Many Benefits

November 14th, 2008 safbaby Posted in 0-1 yr, 1-3 yrs, Baby Wearing, Bonding, Give Aways, Organic cotton, Product Reviews 1 Comment »

It’s Babywearing week (Nov 12-18) and we thought it would be perfect timing to highlight the Moby™ Baby Wrap, especially since there are so many benefits to wearing your baby.

At first I was a little overwhelmed when I took my wrap out of the cotton bag: 5.5 meters of soft stretch cotton cloth. What now?

Because I am a visual learner, I decided to watch the instruction video from Moby™ Wrap. Simple!

Moby™ Wrap’s Classic Hug Hold

The video demonstrates the ‘classic hug hold’! It is incredible easy to follow and a few minutes later - voilà - I had my Moby Wrap perfectly wrapped around my upper body.

I tried it with my friend’s 5 month old baby, and I have to say it is incredibly comfortable and secure. I was worried at first that the baby could fall out easily, but if you follow the instructions, your baby is absolutely safe. Read the rest of this entry »

A Safe Birth, Making Educated Choices: An Interview with Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein

November 12th, 2008 safbaby2 Posted in Bonding, DVD, Natural Child Birth, Prenatal 3 Comments »

After watching Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein’s documentary, The Business of Being Born, we really wanted to shine some light here at SafBaby on natural birth and midwifery. So, we interviewed the 2 filmmakers and happily bring you our exclusive interview today!

We know there are many things to consider when choosing a midwife. We wanted to address things that are most important and acknowledge that this is a really important decision. Truth be told, most parents spend more time researching a computer purchase than they do their birthing options, so we wanted to support the study.

Just sleepwalking into your birthing experience can potentially lead to a drastic outcome. On the other hand, making the right birthing choice for you, a well educated and researched choice, can have a profoundly empowering and extraordinary results.

Does Being “Too Posh To Push” Have It’s Consequences?

November 10th, 2008 safbaby2 Posted in Benefits of Breastfeeding, Bonding, DVD, Natural Child Birth, Product Reviews 2 Comments »

We recently watched this wonderfully made documentary, The Business of Being Born.

Director Abby Epstein, and Executive Producer Ricki Lake’s film takes a closer look at: hospital births, why we have so many C-sections in the USA, and why midwifes are so important and (sadly) disrespected.

Sound like just another boring documentary? Not at all! This film is insightful, entertaining, fun, touching and eye-opening. We think every couple that wants to have a baby, or had one, should watch this. Read the rest of this entry »

August 9th, 2008 safbaby2 Posted in 0-1 yr, 1-3 yrs, 3-5 yrs, 5+ yrs, Bonding, Massage, Product Reviews, Skin care No Comments »

Non toxic Baby OilNot all baby oil is safe. This is important to know, especially if you use mineral based massage oils on your precious baby or child.

Using pure, natural, and organic products on my baby girl is very important to me. Knowing that what goes on her delicate skin is just as important as what goes into her body.

Knowing this truth, we are delighted to share this ultra gentle baby oil that has been formulated by a passionate and ecologically conscious L.A. Aesthetician. Maki Maodus developed Mambino Organics Tippy Toes™ Ultra Gentle Baby Oil , aiming to responsibly care for the amazing gift of the human baby body. She sweetly aimed, and hit the bulls-eye with this pure and nurturing oil, and her Mommy and Baby Calming Aromatherapy Oil also. Read the rest of this entry »

Celebrate Breastfeeding Week With Us and WIN Our Give Away!

August 1st, 2008 safbaby2 Posted in 0-1 yr, 1-3 yrs, Benefits of Breastfeeding, Bonding, Give Aways, Petition 8 Comments »

In conjunction with the Olympics, World Breastfeeding Week 2008 calls for greater support for mothers in achieving the gold standard of infant feeding: breastfeeding exclusively for six months, and providing appropriate complementary foods with continued breastfeeding for up to two years or beyond.

As every country sends its best athletes to compete at these global games, it is important to remind ourselves that, in a similar fashion, a healthy young athlete can only emerge from a healthy start on life. There is no question that optimal infant and young child feeding is essential for optimal growth and development. Read the rest of this entry »

The Unbelievable Nurturing Effects of Baby Massage

September 23rd, 2007 safbaby2 Posted in 0-1 yr, 1-3 yrs, Bonding No Comments »

Baby Massage: The Calming Power of TouchWhen my baby girl was born she had beautifully long fingers and toes. “Little monkey feet”, daddy would call them. (Actually, he still does.) They are just the sweetest feet! (Is it me, or all mamas who adore excessively over their newborns new little feet and hands? Every single one of us I’m sure!)

Baby girl has since grown into those “monkey toes”, and as Granny calls them, “perfect gymnastics hands”. But we have all heard it from other parents many, many times, “they grow so fast”. So to have quite time daily, nurturing each itsy-bitsy new body part, will always be very cherished moments for me. It is so special to know that at this moment, during this massage, she is the smallest she’ll be from here on out. Having this closeness with her I could pick her little feet out of a million baby feet, I could pick out her knees and elbows too. Now I find myself saying it too, “it happens so fast”. These quiet times, make time sweetly stop, if just for moments.

Of the many benefits of infant massage, Read the rest of this entry »

Product Review: Baby Ergo Carrier

September 11th, 2007 safbaby Posted in 0-1 yr, 1-3 yrs, 3-5 yrs, Baby Wearing, Bonding, Organic cotton, Product Reviews 1 Comment »

ergo_carrier.gifIf I had to pick 3 things that I would not want to go without, the Ergo Baby Carrier would be one of them! Me and my husband love to be in nature and hike, so this definitely fits into our lifestyle perfectly. We have the organic denim carrier, but they come in other colors too.

I was first introduced to the Ergo Baby Carrier when my friend came to visit us in Kauai. My baby was 3 months old, and her boy was 1 years old. She wore her boy all over the island, and not only was I totally sold on one for us, it seemed that a mom in every spot we went to was asking her about it as well. Read the rest of this entry »
