It’s Babywearing week (Nov 12-18) and we thought it would be perfect timing to highlight the Moby™ Baby Wrap, especially since there are so many benefits to wearing your baby.
At first I was a little overwhelmed when I took my wrap out of the cotton bag: 5.5 meters of soft stretch cotton cloth. What now?
Because I am a visual learner, I decided to watch the instruction video from Moby™ Wrap. Simple!
Moby™ Wrap’s Classic Hug Hold
The video demonstrates the ‘classic hug hold’! It is incredible easy to follow and a few minutes later - voilà - I had my Moby Wrap perfectly wrapped around my upper body.
I tried it with my friend’s 5 month old baby, and I have to say it is incredibly comfortable and secure. I was worried at first that the baby could fall out easily, but if you follow the instructions, your baby is absolutely safe. Read the rest of this entry »

Ever since my daughter started eating solids, I wondered if a supplement was necessary. If so, what do I look for? Can they really boost her immune system and keep her healthy? Are they overkill and a waste of money if she is eating healthy foods?
All of these questions and so many different products to choose from. There is an overwhelming selection of vitamins, minerals, and immune boosting support supplements on the market. So, I decided to ask my pediatrician for her recommendation. She suggested Childlife® Essentials Vitamins and also added that it was one of the best supplement companies on the market.
Then we read the survey done by the FDA that found elevated levels of lead in many supplements available for children, and we really wanted to dig deeper. Read the rest of this entry »

We recently watched this wonderfully made documentary, The Business of Being Born.
Director Abby Epstein, and Executive Producer Ricki Lake’s film takes a closer look at: hospital births, why we have so many C-sections in the USA, and why midwifes are so important and (sadly) disrespected.
Sound like just another boring documentary? Not at all! This film is insightful, entertaining, fun, touching and eye-opening. We think every couple that wants to have a baby, or had one, should watch this. Read the rest of this entry »

Finding a safe, non-toxic nail polish is important if you are going to introduce this cosmetic to your child.
Most nail polishes contain harmful ingredients such as: formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate and acetone. So finding a safer alternative is a smart choice!
Now that my daughter has gotten her piggy’s painted, she is a little addicted to it. She even wants to paint daddy’s toenails! It hasn’t gone that far yet, but for our toddler, “pink fingernails” and “pink piggies” are becoming a common color scheme around our here.
Thank goodness for Piggy Paint™, my little one can enjoy her colorful nails and I keep peace of mind that we are making a safe alternative nail polish choice. Read the rest of this entry »

Having an organic and chemical free sunscreen on hand, even in the fall and winter is important if you enjoy the outdoors like we do.
UVA and UVB sunrays travel directly to the earth, regardless of the weather. We absorb these rays, but our babies absorb them much faster because their skin is so thin and sensitive. Things like sand and snow actually reflect these dangerous rays too. Reflective rays are powerful, and snow can reflect dangerous sun rays up to 88%!
Protecting our babies from reflective rays is best done with a safe, chemical free sunscreen! Read the rest of this entry »

Since we’ve gotten our Lotus Pad child sized eco-friendly mats for our little toddlers, my baby girl and I have been having some serious fun! The joy of rolling, folding and twisting with her in the mornings really beats hanging out with Elmo!
It is a win-win for the two of us. Both of us getting in some sweet bonding time, as we enjoy fitness fun. We get creative as we move and usually wind up singing and dancing together too! Read the rest of this entry »

At Safbaby we have been searching for baby dolls free of PVC for the last few months (in the US and Europe), and we have been unsuccessful in finding one.
Since we’ve recently received an email from a mother who’s desperately trying to find a doll for her little girl that is PVC/Vinyl-Free, we now post our research here for all of you.
Even though most manufacturer claim that PVC/Vinyl without phthalates is not harmful, many experts question it’s safety. Read the rest of this entry »

We used these adorable bamboo disposable plates for my little girl’s second birthday party. What a eco-fabulous way to party in style, along with having the convenience of no clean-up! Nothing like giving a party AND enjoying it too. With Bamdino Bamboo Plates, I was able to do just that!
Along side of the Bamdino Plates, we also used the Bambu Baby and Kids Utensils as a natural non-plastic alternative.
The new Kids Spork double times its duties, and was a fun way to celebrate and eat our fruit salad with too! The sporks were also then taken home by each child to enjoy time and time again. The coolest thing with these, when they out grow them, they can still be used for play with their kitchen and tea sets. Read the rest of this entry »

Now that I have a Mimi the Sardine PVC-Free Splash Mat, I have NO IDEA what I did without it.
We use it for crafty kids projects such as making play dough and while finger painting.
We also use it as a table cloth on my little girls favorite table when we eat there. Oh yes, and of course you can use this great “spill mat” (as we have nick-named it) under baby’s highchair too. Read the rest of this entry »

Sandra loves modern design. So, I think it is classic that her little girl loves this BPA-Free Safe Sippy more than any other. So much so that she now refuses to drink out of any other sippy cup. This sippy is also certified to be free of not only BPA, but also of phthalates and DEHA.
The Safe Sippy is made of stainless steel and is designed beautifully modern. The look is refreshingly unique and their newest design is now available.
If you don’t want your little one having the same old sippy as the rest of the room, you must check this out! Read the rest of this entry »

Although I LOVE a good bubble bath, I haven’t really enjoyed one since I became increasingly aware of what makes up the ingredients of most bubble bath products (sodium laurel sulfates, synthetic fragrances and artificial colors). Not very relaxing once you become aware that you are a steeping body in a tub full of potentially harmful chemicals. Kind of robs the moment.
My baby girl had never experienced a lathery, sudsy bubble bath…….. not until we found Little Twig! And that first bubble bath with her made me smile from ear to ear. Read the rest of this entry »

The first time that my baby girl played with a wooden Kitchen Play Center was in a toy store. She just loved it and it kept her engaged in imaginative play for quite some time. This was when I realized how wonderful a Play Kitchen really is for a child’s imagination and creative play time.
Unfortunately, many toy kitchens are made of plywood, containing formaldehyde and toxic paints. On top of that, glues used to press woods such as plywood and particleboard together, give off additional toxic fumes.
Formaldehyde and other toxic glues are widely used in wooden play kitchens and other wooden toys. In small amounts, this toxic chemical can irritate your child’s eyes, skin and throat, and it can cause nausea and lethargy. In high concentrations and through long-term exposure, formaldehyde is a deadly carcinogenic substance.
That’s why we were looking for one of the safest, environmental-friendliest and highest quality kitchens available……. and SafBaby happily found this one! Read the rest of this entry »

It is absolutely essential your baby or child is kept safe in the sun, and Sharksuit makes it easy and fun.
Depending on where you live, shopping for sun protective clothing NOW may seem a little late in the season. But, if you time it right, you can actually save serious money on spf clothing that will, FOR SURE, be useful next summer. And the timing is NOW!
The investment of buying ahead isn’t the only saving! I’ve saved so much money on sunblock since we’ve gotten our fun Sharksuits too. And I know you can relate, applying clothing to a toddler is MUCH EASIER than applying sunscreen!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Although it’s just a temporary solution and not THE solution, my husband and I decided to cut down on fossil fuel usage by driving a fuel-efficient hybrid car . We also wanted to set a great example to our daughter by caring about the environment and her future. After reading reviews and test-driving a few hybrids, we decided to purchase a Toyota Prius.
I had to write this review because so many parents asked us, if it’s spacious enough for our family. And once I showed them how much room there was, they were usually very impressed. Read the rest of this entry »

Not all baby oil is safe. This is important to know, especially if you use mineral based massage oils on your precious baby or child.
Using pure, natural, and organic products on my baby girl is very important to me. Knowing that what goes on her delicate skin is just as important as what goes into her body.
Knowing this truth, we are delighted to share this ultra gentle baby oil that has been formulated by a passionate and ecologically conscious L.A. Aesthetician. Maki Maodus developed Mambino Organics Tippy Toes™ Ultra Gentle Baby Oil , aiming to responsibly care for the amazing gift of the human baby body. I remember how much I enjoyed the outdoors as a child. I climbed trees to pick apples and cherries, tried to catch butterflies, collected different shaped leaves and loved getting dirty in the mud.
My dad and I used to go near the forest, just before dawn, to see the deers come out to feed on grass. We would just sit there quietly and wait. I remember how much I loved those quiet moments observing the animals. It’s something I enjoyed doing with my dad, this was our special time together. Now, it is a fond memory that I cherish for life.
Today, TV, video games and internet seem to be more entertaining and exciting for kids than outdoor play. A lot of kids today suffer from “nature-deficit disorder”. Since kids do what we do, we need to get off the couch and get them excited about the wonders of nature. Read the rest of this entry »

Another safe alternative to conventional cotton is bamboo.
We’ve heard about the toxic process of bamboo from plant to fiber which can be harmful on the environment. So, we searched for a company that offered a safer, non-toxic processing alternative.
We were impressed with Bamboosa’s integrity and had to rave about their baby soft gift set. Bamboosa chooses to not use bleach on their fabrics and many of their purely natural products are without any dye at all. Read the rest of this entry »

After our recent post on the dangers to our children due to Triclosan in anti-bacterial soaps, we thought it would be nice to let you know about a soap we personally enjoy using to wash our toddler’s hands. This is a great, safe alternative to anti-bacterial soaps!
Sandra likes this safe and non-toxic hand soap for her child because of it’s hydrating effects on her little girl’s hands. “I love that her hands stay so soft, even though we wash them often throughout the day. Most other soaps dry out her skin if we use them that frequently.”
I like this hand soap because I think it smells so nice! It has a delicious nutty smell, that is completely and truly natural. No added fragrances here. Read the rest of this entry »

It was love at first touch for me! Having this natural doll in my hands feels really good. Not to mention: what a great safe alternative to those toxic stuffed animals that typically end up in our landfills.
Numerous pieces of brightly colored and patterned leftover fabrics are sewn together in rings attached to a fun animal head (choose from bear, bunny, elephant or puppy doll).
The textures that come from the folded and layered limbs are so uniques and wonderful.
We also love that the cutest cuddle toys have been lovingly crafted from scraps that would otherwise be unwanted additions to our landfills. Read the rest of this entry »
