Food Inc.: E. Coli On The Rise – A Threath To Our Children

Food Inc. Documentary Review on Safbaby.comThis documentary, in an impeccable way, lifts from us a deliberate vail between our food and where it comes from.

There is such an important message brought to us here from Magnolia Pictures.  We hope that each and everyone of you gets a chance to see this documentary when it becomes available to purchase through Amazon on November 3, or rent through Netflix.com.

Their message warns that the-money-making-system of our food industry has ZERO interest in producing safe/humane food products for us. Yes, there is a world deliberately hidden from us, but this world will be revealed to you here.

Tracing produce from seed to supermarket, it’s revealing of how our food is being controlled, what we’re allowed to know, and the powerful industry that defines our nutritional nourishment, health and well-being.

Our eyes become open to the fact that the way we eat has changed more in the past 50 years than it has in the past 10,000 years!  But the imagery used to sell the food is still agrarian.  Meaning that although most packaged products such as cheese and butter come all wrapped up with an image of green farmland and red barns.  The truth of the story is alarmingly nothing the sort.

Food Inc. additionally shines the light on these other important concerns….

“There are only 13 slaughter houses in America, slaughtering 400 animals/hour, you can see why E. coli spreads rapidly from factory to slaughter house to our tables.”

E. coli In Meat, Spinach, Apple Juice

There is a new strain of E. coli that NEVER EXISTED on this planet, and is now here due to the corn and beef industry!  Cows were designed to eat grass.  They should not eat corn/soy.  Their stomachs are not designed to digest such foods, and it is making them very unhealthy.   This is a root of the way life-threatening E. coli/salmonella and other bacterias get into our beef, steaks, even apple juice and spinach.

E. coli From McDonalds

Safbaby.com Founder Sandra had a personal experience with getting very sick from E. coli:

“10 years ago I ate my last burger at McDonalds and NEVER ate burgers again!  I worried my kidney’s would fail, I never felt a more excruciating pain that I thought I would die.  For the next few days I had the worst bladder infection… It was E. coli and it took me weeks to recover from it!

This encouraged me to learn/inform myself about the whole meat industry. I read The Food Revolution: How Your Diet Can Help Save Your Life and Our World by John Robbins and it was my first insight in how animals are kept, and what was added to meat so it would look appetizing and fresh.   Shortly after this read, I become a vegetarian and I have never eaten meat since.”

Kevin’s Law

Kevin’s Law was named in memory of a two-year-old, Kevin Kowalcyk, who died in 2001 after eating a hamburger contaminated with E. coli. Barbara Kowalcyk has devoted her life to passing “Kevin’s Law”. The law would have given the U.S. Department of Agriculture the power to close down plants that produce contaminated meat. Years of legal investigation revealed that the meat that caused her son’s death was recalled by the producer 2 weeks after his death.

The bill never became law because the beef industry has such powerful lobbyists in Washington! “We are not being protected at the most basic level,”  was sadly Kevin’s mother’s regret.

Where E. coli Comes From

The reality with the meat industry is filthy FACTORY and assembly lines, NOT farm.

These factory raided cows are being fed corn and soy, which they can’t digest, so in their stomachs this very bad bacteria are being made.  Being confined in a factory, they don’t have room to move and so they each stand chin deep in one another’s infected feces.

Due to this confinement and these cleanliness and humane standards, when one cow gets E. coli, they spread it amongst themselves effortlessly.  Also, since there are only 13 slaughter houses in America, slaughtering 400 animals/hour, you can see why E. coli spreads rapidly from factory to slaughter house to our tables.

And 32,000 hogs slaughtered daily by Smithfield is no tiny number of pork being checked through the system without proper inspection or cleanliness manners practiced.

The E. coli recalls from foods such as spinach and apple juice happens from contaminated runoff water.  Again one more filthy side effect of the factory-farming-industry.

Oh yeah, and wait until you see the numbers Food Inc. show in the drastically decreased numbers of food inspectors in the last 25 years.  Astonishing!  This system is about efficiency, not safety or our health.

This growth in E. coli now in our food system is due to fact that our industrial food system is fast food hungry.  Be inspired by 11 year old Koa Halpern, founder of Fast Food Free, to stop eating fast food.  He challenges you to one week free of fast food.  Please read this.

Illegal To Publish Pictures Inside Meat-Packing Plants

Can you believe that it is now illegal in some states to publish pictures inside meat-packing plants? Especially in states where the biggest meat-packing facilities are located. What does this tell you? Are they afraid, if we saw what goes on inside these facilities, we would be outraged, disgusted and angry and probably never eat conventional meat again.

Just knowing that it is illegal should be alarming enough to stop buying conventional meat!

The Fast Food Industry and Obesity

Why can we get a big mac for $.99, but can’t get a head of broccoli for under $2.00?  No wonder the biggest factor of obesity is income level.

Monsanto And The Future Of Our Seed Banks

There are only a handful of companies control our food system.  And although there are 47,000 products in a super-market, there are only a few companies/crops actually involved!

So much of our food is actually cleaver re-arrangements of corn and soy!  Now that Monsanto has Genetically Modified the vast majority of corn and soy we must be even more concerned.  Please read our post about GMO and their dangers to our babies here.

Monsanto’s round-up-ready soybeans and corn seeds are spreading a contagious disaster within our farming community and within the plants we rely on to feed us indefinitely.

Early harvesting of genetically altered plants/foods, repeatedly sprayed with hundreds of toxic chemicals is soon becoming “ideas of food” by the time they get to our plates, but not truly nourishing foods.

MAKES US WANT TO GET HUGE ORGANIC GARDENS AND SEED BANKS GOING IN FULL FORCE.

This robotic and disheartening system is INFURIATING.  I watched this documentary with a friend, I can’t help but quote her here as she stated her truth, “What makes me so angry is that I just took a nutrition class at MSU and we NEVER were taught ANY of this.”

Hence, the deliberate vail that is is yet again being pulled over our future’s eyes, and consequently the ecological health of this whole system is failing.

The Diabetes Rise And Our Children’s Future

1 in 3 Americans born after 2000 will have early on diabetes! This is a number that we as parent’s need to be very concerned about.  We need to eat consciously by knowing where it comes from, and we must demand wholesome food.

I love forwarding these updates to friends and learning about all of this important data, but please try to spell check or proofread prior to posting. The word? “vail”, if such a word exists, was used twice, where you meant to say “veil”; plus a couple of other grammatical mistakes. Sorry to nitpick. I just think these kinds of mistakes make the announcements a little unprofessional looking.

I’m really glad you are informing us of these issues, however! Makes me even more commited to feeding my baby organic and home and locally-grown food.

I watched the last 30 minutes or so of a pig slaughterhouse documentary and I was so disgusted and horrified to watch how inhumane how animals are killed for food. Like you mentioned, our food has changed the last 50 years and so has the numbers of degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and coronary diseases. I wrote a brief post on “You Are What You Eat” on my blog some time ago and it’s information I learned about how companies add additives and preservatives in food for taste and shelve life. Right now, I’m focused on slow cooking and eating whole foods. I love the awareness that you are spreading around.
