Is Tap Water Safe For My Baby?

Baby BathWe have had a 10-way carbon filter by New Wave for our drinking water for a couple of years now. But, once we moved to Southern California, investing in a shower filter became very important. The thought of bathing my baby in Los Angeles county tap water just didn’t settle right with me. Baby’s immune systems are just developing and are simply incapable of detoxifying chemicals the way adults can.

How many contaminants can possibly be in our tap water you may ask? We do live in America, right?

Well here is the problem. Contaminants are getting into our tap water thru many sources. Runoff from herbicides of crops, cattle and cotton, discharge from rubber, plastic and industrial factories, leaching from PVC pipes, and sewage! This just gets us started. Cosmetics, fragrances, sunscreens, and an array of drugs (prescription, over-the-counter, and veterinary), makes up the bioactive chemicals. These are substances that have an effect on living tissue: pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCP).

The #1 contaminant in our water where we live is arsenic from sprawl, sewage, factory and industry farms. The tragic health effects of taking in these highly toxic substances are multiplied many times over for small children because their systems are more sensitive and still developing.

Being that our skin is the largest organ of the human body, we can absorb up to 50% the level of water borne contaminants during a 10 minute shower than we do from drinking a glass of that same water. The use of chlorine treats our waters to reduce the risk of infectious diseases. And up to 2/3 of harmful exposure to chlorine is due to inhaling the steam, and the absorption of it through our open pores, while bathing. The connection between the intake of chlorine and cancers are alarming!

The potential health risks from ingesting and absorbing our tap waters includes increased risk of cancer, liver problems, reproductive difficulties, and nervous system problems. Just to name a few. For Father’s Day we got my dad an Aquasana water filter for his shower. He had had some lesions on his skin for a while. And after showering in his filtered water for 3 days, they were completely gone! Aquasana filters out 99% of the chlorine that would get through your shower head. I found this to be the best quality filter for the price. The shower filter with the wand enables me to fill up the bathtub easy for baby’s bath. I could even tell a difference in the quality of my hair. But most importantly I am assured that many of these contaminants will not be absorbed through my baby girl’s soft, smooth skin and into her precious pure body!

May you and your baby be showered with blessings of health and pure love!
