Right on! I'm a Union Carpenter of 23 years and a surfer of 40 years and I'm in the sun alot. I've only recently started searching for these type of products not only for myself but for my 2 year old grandson, my 25 year old daughter, who I've tried to teach to be healthy spiritually and physically, and my active 74 year old mom, can't slow her down. Thank you for showing both sides of the concerns of caring people who aren't afraid to speak out, and hopefully honest, health and chemical experts.

We feel you mama!
We truly love this sunscreen and have done the research to back us recommending it too.
We like the way it feels and trust the ingredients to be as safe as it gets.
Check this out for a little more info on the ingredients:
http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/special/sunscreens2008/findyoursunscreen.php?brand_id=&query=soleo+
We will continue to use this sunscreen for our family and are aware that there are a few other safe options too.
It does not get any safer than this though, as far as sunscreens are concerned.

Let me correct both Jeff's and Bryan's comments below.

First great observations! Zinc is a chemical, and if you want to get completely technical, any chemist would consider all things to be "chemical" since all things are made up of chemical compounds.

That being said, Jeff, Soleo is not trying to be misleading. The ingredients in the "inactive" mix (the cream) are all organically sourced from highly credible suppliers. The zinc oxide is used as a highly stable, broad spectrum sunscreen. Zinc, while accurately described as a chemical, is also an essential mineral. The contrast that Soleo is trying to draw is that it uses NO chemical UV absorbers, NO synthetic preservatives or artificial fragrances or alcohol. Since you're obviously web savvy, just type in "chemical sunscreens" in your browser and see for yourself the information available. Check credible sites like www.ewg.org to get unbiased information if you want to research this topic. Soleo won't sting your eyes and is suitable for even the most sensitive skin types. You are partially incorrect in that we don't use a chemical process on our zinc, but it is milled instead.

As for Bryan, you are correct in that Soleo is not using any synthetic chemicals or preservatives. Their process to develop Soleo's zinc is proprietary. I would not agree with your "ethanol" analogy as zinc is an essential mineral, and is important for all living cells. Soleo was invented from its inception to be made ONLY of ingredients that were good on your skin, good should any get inside your body, and is also biodegradable. You've also grossly misstated the "organic" claim argument in your third comment, as if Soleo's trying to be misleading. As I'm sure you probably know, an "organic' designation can be made according to the USDA if a certain percentage of ingredients are organic, and "certified organic" can be claimed if 95% of ingredients are certified organically sourced. This, however, is only pertinent to organic foods, not personal care products. There are no industry-wide recognized standards yet for personal care products, but I know the Soleo team is actively helping in the development of such accepted standards.

The bottom line, as Soleo is concerned, is that Soleo represents an evolution of choice for people who are seeking clean alternatives. At last count, there were over 980 sunscreens sold in the US, and only four or five clean alternatives currently exist, led by Soleo.

"Having an organic and chemical free sunscreen"

I'm guessing your definition of a "chemical" means synthetic since all the ingredients listed contain chemical compounds (though they are naturally created). Even pure water is a chemical....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemical

Unless I am wrong in what you are defining as a "chemical" you still have a chemical in your product.... If I am wrong please tell me what a "chemical" is that it doesn't include ZnO.

Active Ingredient: Zinc oxide 22.3%

ZnO is a chemical manufactured by high temperature oxidation of metallic Zn.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_oxide

You claim "organic" yet almost 25% of your product is an inorganic compound which is manufactured and not renewable. If that's the case then Ethanol blended gasoline is "organic" since it contains 10% of a grown product....

Organic? Zinc oxide is "inorganic". I think this is a good sunscreen but Chemical free and organic are misleading. All sunscreens using minerals like Zinc or Titanium need a chemical and mechanical process to micronize these mineral to make it small enough to be used on the skin.
