Pregnant Moms Stay Clear of BPA!

Pregnant Moms Stay Clear of BPAAs conscious parents wishing to create as safe, toxin-free environment for our children we know all too well about the estrogen-mimicking chemical of BPA for our little ones.

We have switched from plastic bottles and sippy cups to glass or stainless steel, we look for a BPA-Free label on canned goods, and we look for the same reassurance when it comes to the toys we purchase.  Shoot, BPA is even hiding in our infant formulas!

Well, now with results coming in from a recent study, it’s looking like pregnant mothers need to be extremely cautious of their BPA exposure.  (Not that you wouldn’t have been already, but these test findings are interesting.)

BPA In The Womb Shows Link To Kids’ Behavior

Janet Raloff of Science News recently blogged about the findings of a study done with pregnant mothers exposed to BPA directly relating to behavioral problems in their 2 year olds.

Now some may argue how one can reliably measure behavior in a 2 year old.  But knowing that there is scientific evidence pointing in the direction of 2 year old girls (exposed to BPA in utero) being more aggressive than the norm, and 2 year old boys (exposed to BPA in utero) being more withdrawn than the norm sparks our interest.

We wish to stay informed with the latest findings so as to make our most conscious choices as to how we will live our daily lives.

So, when we heard about another invisible place that BPA is hiding and potential exposure rate high we had to share.

BPA Exposure In Receipts!

Again blogged by Janet Raloff of Science News, Concerned about BPA: Check Your Receipts, warns that some receipts may be dripping with loose BPA molecules ready for uptake.

It’s sad that proper testing is not being further researched at this time, but a great reminder of the importance of washing our hands before we eat.

Ways To Reduce BPA Exposure For Pregnant Moms

  1. Do not drink out of plastic bottles, especially one that has sat in your hot car.  Use glass or 100% stainless steel canteens.
  2. Do not microwave or cook plastic containers!  If you are cooking a frozen dinner that comes in the plastic tray, take it out and put it into a Pyrex before heating.
  3. Use glass to store left over foods, don’t put hot food in a plastic Tupperware to store.
  4. BPA also leaches in the freezer!  Use stainless steel ice cube trays and store food in glass in the freezer.
  5. BPA lines canned goods, so look for a BPA-free label if you are eating canned foods.
